No novel dedicated to vampires has been as popular as the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyers. The Twilight Saga is a series for four novels that include Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Each one revolves around the main characters Bella Swan, a teenage girl, and Edward Cullen a youthful-looking, 104-year-old vampire.When Bella moves to Forks, Washington and attends the high school there, she meets Edward Cullen, a handsomely mysterious boy who saves her from being killed by a flying car. Bella later learns that Edward is a vampire who only drinks animal blood. He has superhuman powers, glows in the sun and is intensely attracted to Bella. While the two fall in love, Edward must protect Bella from another clan of vampires who want to hunt her down.
In the second novel, New Moon, Edward and his family leave the town in order to prevent Bella from being in danger. Now alone and missing Edward, Bella becomes depressed and begins to spend more time with Jacob Black and the two become great friends. When Bella later learns that Jacob is a wolf, she also finds out that the tribe of wolves do not get along with the vampires. Jacob and his tribe must protect Bella from Victoria, a vampire who wants revenge for the killing of her mate James. Her plan is to kill Bella. Meanwhile, Bella and Jacob develop a special bond and Jacob falls in love with her.
In the third novel, Eclipse, Victoria gathers her army of vampires to fight the Cullen family in order to avenge the death of James. Despite their hard past, the Cullen family of vampires and Jacob’s wolf pack join together to destroy Victoria. In the meantime, Bella must choose between Jacob and Edward. Her final decision is Edward over Jacob.
Finally, in Breaking Dawn, Bella and Edward get married and Bella finds that she has become pregnant. She almost dies while giving birth to Renesmee but Edward gives Bella his venom and saves her life. Not only is Bella alive, but she has also turned into a vampire. Now, Renesmee, the half-vampire and half-human child is seen as a threat by the Volturri.
Stephenie Meyers has gained worldwide recognition and praise for her series of Twilight books. She has received positive criticism and a large amount of success. There are also film adaptations starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. Although the Twilight Saga is not the classic vampire novel, it explores common themes set in modern times. It is largely a novel about vampires, good verses evil and love for a younger audience.
