Twilight Saga

One of the largest vampire crazes of the twenty-first century surrounds the Twilight Saga, a series of novels written by Stephenie Meyer. The novels and the film adaptation have captured audience members and readers, both young and old. Despite the diverse crowds the series attracted, most fans have been female teenyboppers.

The Twilight Saga series begins with the love connection between small town girl, Bella Swan and heartthrob vampire, Edward Cullen. The story becomes complicated when Jacob Black enters the scene and falls in Love with Bella. Jacob is part of the family of wolves, who are in turn enemies of the vampires. The saga continues with Bella having to choose between two opposing worlds while trying to stay alive against the evils that surround her.

The Twilight Saga film series has topped the charts of highest grossing films in the United States. The cast features Kristen Stewart as Bella, Robert Pattinson as Edward and Taylor Lautner as Jacob. Much of the acclaim has been for the choice of casting members, who have swept fans off their feet. Music fans have also applauded the choice of songs for the soundtracks for each of the films in the series.

Despite its popularity, the series has received a great deal of criticism from vampire enthusiasts. Most of it revolves around Meyer’s reinvention of the nature of vampires. Twilight avoids the gruesomely gory actions of the quintessential vampire and the dark thematic elements. However, the novels and film adaptations have successfully attracted new group of young vampire fans.
