Vampire Stories

Vampire stories are quite common in today’s society; they are told and retold throughout many events and all over the world as well. It is quite common for children to sit around a campfire and recite dark, creepy stories of vampires and their guiltless, unfortunate victims, or teenagers to indulge themselves in vampire stories around Halloween time, in order to scare their friends and peers. Many vampire stories are simply just made up around the campfire, and others are passed down from generation to generation, or written down in novels and anthologies of short stories. Novels such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Polidori’s The Vampyre made stories of vampires more common and widely dispersed among members of society. Thousands of different versions and types of vampire stories emerged from numerous authors. Writers such as Martin H. Greenberg, Peter Haining, Nancy Kilpatrick, David J. Skall, Byron Preiss, and Stephen Jones are known for their vampire stories. In these vampire stories, vampires are portrayed in different ways. Sometimes the vampire is portrayed as a bat or a beautiful woman. Most of the time, however, the vampire is illustrated as a mysterious man lurking around in some alley in the dark night, waiting for a beautiful, young and innocent girl he can prey on. Whether or not vampires exist is not really the point in these vampire stories; the possibility of such a creature is enough to excite any thrill-seeking, open minded individual. Vampire stories have been around for a very long time, and through legend, both verbal and written, they will continue to exist and survive for generations to come.
